1910 Plow Boy Tobacco Archer and Sheckard
Starting Bid - $300.00, Sold For - $1,725.00
Two cards from this unusual sepia-toned 1910 cabinet card issue which features Cubs and White Sox players, issued by the Spaulding & Merrick Tobacco Company to promote their Plow Boy Tobacco brand. Regionally issued in the Chicago area, Plow Boy Tobacco cards were issued with two different advertising reverses. Archer is in Vg-Ex condition, with a little general wear to the corners but no creases (simple ad back variety). Sheckard was apparently long ago saved in a scrapbook, and while the back is very clean, it does have some very minimal scrapbook paper residue on the reverse (smaller than the size of a dime, and very likely removable), and a tiny surface chip to the obverse on Sheckard's bat, otherwise Vg-Ex (more elaborate ad back style with list of premiums offered). Two cards. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $1,725.00
