1910 Philadelphia Athletics Connie Mack World Champions Pendant
Starting Bid - $1,000.00, Sold For - $3,162.50
Exceptional example of one of the rarest and most elaborately designed of all baseball celluloids, the 1910 "Leeds" Connie Mack ribbon badge pinback. Similar in style to the equally rare ribbon press pins of the era, the "Leeds" ribbon pin features a portrait of Philadelphia Athletics manager Connie Mack, on a hanging celluloid pendant. The fancy design elements, such as the gold laurel leaves surrounding Mack's portrait, and the gold tassels of the ribbon, give this substantial badge a particularly impressive display value. This ribbon badge was produced by the Leeds Club of Philadelphia as a tribute to the Philadelphia Athletics, who in 1910 had just won their first World Series. It is not known how they were distributed, but based on their rarity it has been suggested that they may have been given to players. The ribbon is 2.25" wide and 8.5" long, including the gold fringe at the bottom. In Excellent condition. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000. SOLD FOR $3,162.50
