1908 Nap Lajoie Watch Fob and Scorer
Starting Bid - $400.00, Sold For - $805.00
Issued in 1908 by the Cleveland Leader newspaper, this rare celluloid advertising watch fob features Cleveland Indians star and Hall of Famer Napoleon Lajoie. Lajoie's portrait appears in blue tint against a gold background, encircled by white lettering in a blue border. The celluloid section with Lajoie's portrait is mounted on a high quality pressed cardboard backing, which is elaborately designed to function as an umpire's scorer on the reverse, with moving parts. Works perfectly and includes original watch fob leather strap. The celluloid has a few very small scratches which can be seen only if examined very closely, and which is mentioned strictly for the sake of accuracy, otherwise in exceptional Ex-Mt condition, and in far superior condition than this magnificent early baseball celluloid is usually found, with perfect image registration (which is often a problem with this advertising fob). A magnificent example of one of the premier baseball celluloid pieces of the era. Reserve $400. Estimate $800/$1,200. SOLD FOR $805.00
